Our Year 6 children jumped over the Denbigh rainbow today to make their journeys up to high school. They have made us so proud over this last year; there wasn’t a dry eye in the yard after school as we said our goodbyes! Here is a collection of the wonderful memories that we have made together this year alongside the children’s thoughts on leaving Denbigh.

We wish you all the luck in the world and we hope to see you all again soon! Miss Stephenson and Mrs Hammill #dcpscore #dcpstiger #dcpslion

It’s been quite the year but as always the children have shown us their very best. Here’s just a snapshot of some of the things Y2 have done this year (we couldn’t put in every photo we’ve taken, it would have been like binge watching a box set and would have taken hours).
Enjoy 😊

Year 5 had a fantastic Maths lesson applying all of their mathematical skills from this year. The children had a range of challenges for the yard and the car park and they had to use their knowledge to solve them. They were great! #dcpswhale #dcpsdolphin #dcpscore #dcpslotc #dcpsmaths ... Today Year 6 had a fabulous afternoon at Denbighfest. The children had a fantastic time chilling out with their friends, many of whom are moving on to the same high school as them, but some they will be saying goodbye to as they leave for other schools. They danced, sang, posed in the photo booth, played outdoor games, ate food, toasted marshmallows, had glitter tattoos applied, limbo danced and had a wonderful time. The children’s behaviour was superb and many memories were made for both children and staff. We can’t believe this was the first of our Year 6 Denbigh leaving events. Here’s to more memory making over the next two days. #dcpslion #dcpstiger #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Well done Denbigh! 👏

Elephants have been getting arty this afternoon. We have been looking at how shading has been used in portraits and discussing what we like and dislike about different portraits and artists. Then we investigated the effects we can get with different grades of pencils and had fun experimenting with these. #dcpselephant #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Year 4 have been looking at position and direction in maths this week. We have been learning how to plot coordinates on a grid, thinking about the x and y axis. Today we were plotting coordinates to draw a 2d shape. Sometimes it got a bit tricky, but we have been determined and worked really hard. Well done year 4! #dcpselephant #dcpsgiraffe #dcpsmaths #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Elephants have been investigating plants in STEM this week. After successfully identifying the parts of a plant and their job, we set up some experiments. First we wanted to see what plants need to survive. Each group has been given a plant and removed one of the things we think it needs (air, water, soil, light). We are observing the plants over time to see what happens. Today we looked at water transport. We used celery and food colouring to watch how water moves through and plant and changes the colour of the celery. We have decided to leave some plants overnight to see what happens over a longer time. #dcpselephant #dcpsstem #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

This afternoon Year 4 conducted a very interesting investigation. They wanted to know how water transports through a stem and up into a plant. They observed a stick of celery in some water with blue food colouring every 5 minutes and recorded what had happened. We found out some amazing results! The stem transported the blue dye all the way up the plant! Fantastic observation skills, Giraffes. Well done! #dcpsgiraffe #dcpsstem #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Year 6 have been taking part in an oracy transition project where they had to write their own speeches about their time in primary school and the things that they are looking forward to about their new high schools. We didn’t let a little thing like rain stop us having a great time in the woods today. We went to feed the ducks, spotted some ducklings and made friends with them. We played Poohsticks, dropping sticks into the burn and seeing which emerged under the bridge first. We made a dry den, played Stuck in the Mud, made our own swing and JUMPED IN HUGE PUDDLES! It was amazing! We loved every minute! #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpslotc #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

The Polar Bears had a brilliant afternoon in Commando Joes. They were sent on a mission to collect fruit from the trees in the jungle. They had limited resources to do this and were not allowed to use their hands. I was very impressed with the ways in which they collected the fruit using only ropes, nets, sticks and buckets.

Well done, Polar Bears!

This afternoon our Year 2 children took part in a spot of orienteering and teamwork. The Dragons’ task was to use their map reading skills to locate 8 points where there would find hidden letters. These then spelt out a word when rearranged. The Dinos’ had to work together as a team to put together an aerial photograph of the school. It sounds simple enough but was made harder by the fact that the pieces were in an envelope and only one could be retrieved at a time. #dcpsdragon #dcpsdinosaur #dcpscore #dcpslotc #dcpspe ...
