At the beginning of the week the Dinos had their very own art gallery, looking at each other’s printing pieces from last week. They wrote lovely comments on post it notes for the artist to read later. #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
The Dinos have loved art week this week, learning all about different line drawing techniques and using different grades of pencil. They put their knowledge into using a viewfinder to really focus in on a particular part of a pice of art work, before turning their hand to creating landscapes. Next week they’ll be finishing off their colour versions so watch out for our final pieces. #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

In Geography this week, Giraffes have been learning all about the continents of the world. We started the week with a Beat the Geographer quiz, and used our knowledge of the continents to match them to their shape. It was super tricky, but we are really confident now! #dcpscore #dcpsgiraffe #dcpstopic #dcpsgeography ... See MoreSee Less
This afternoon the Dragons have had another art lesson! We practiced our new found knowledge of line techniques and used them to create a landscape. We used cross hatching, hatching, stippling and much more! Here is some of our amazing work. We really enjoyed this lesson! #dcpsdragon #dcpscore #dcpsart ... See MoreSee Less

Elephants are working so hard on their hot writes this morning. We have been looking adventure stories and thinking about our use of adjectives, speech and suspense to make our stories more exciting. I am looking forward to reading them! #dcpselephant #dcpsenglish #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
The Whales have been working so hard in their Social Action sessions with NUFC. We are now 3 weeks in and the children have come up with some amazing ideas for their community projects. They had to create a project idea, make a short presentation and show their groups so they could decide on a final project. The children have been amazing! #dcpswhale #dcpscore #dcpslifeskills ... Another art week in Year 2! Our focus this week is line. We looked at three different pieces of artwork by Vincent Van Gogh and explored how he created them using different line techniques. We tried our own line techniques using different pencil grades. #dcpsdragon #dcpscore #dcpsart ... See MoreSee Less
In literacy this morning the Dragons looked at commas in a list. Before we competed our main activity we looked at some of our lovely reading books in the classroom and identified the commas and full stops. We found so many! There was a sneaky book with no full stops! #dcpsdragon #dcpsliteracy #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
Some geography in Elephants today. We were looking at continents and trying to recognise them by their shape. We had a great lesson with beat the geographer and a lovely reminder of a continents song. We matched the continents to their correct name and then created a world map jigsaw. Brilliant work everyone. #dcpselephant #dcpsgeography #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
Elephants had a go at their editing skills today. We were editing our innovated adventure stories, perfecting our skills ready for our hot write later this week. We thought really carefully about our punctuation, spelling and improving our vocabulary to make our work even more exciting. It was tricky, but we did a great job. #dcpselephant #dcpsenglish #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
It’s art week again for Year 2 and this week our focus is line. We have looked at three different pieces of artwork by Van Gogh and explored how he created them using different line techniques. We’ve tried out our own line techniques using different grades of pencil to see what difference they make. #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
We are starting our new topic in maths this week, it is fractions! We had to see how many different ways we could share our ‘cake’ into 4 equal parts and cut them out. This was tricky and we had to concentrate! #dcpsdragon #dcpsmaths #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
Today the Dinos are starting to look at fractions. We explored sharing “cakes” between 2 and 4 people, making sure each piece was equal. It’s trickier than you think #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsmaths #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week and our Dojo Winner of the week. We even had a Headteacher award for determination and resilience! What a brilliant week Elephants! Well done! #dcpselephant #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

In the Dragon class it has been art week this week. We started the week by using the primary colours and mixing them together to make the secondary colours which we put on a colour wheel. We also focused on adding white to colours to make them lighter and adding black to colours to make them darker. This was all leading up to our final piece today, we had to create an abstract piece of art using unconventional objects instead of a paintbrush! We practiced earlier in the week mixing the colours and using the unusual objects in preparation for our final piece today. We are so proud of our work! #dcpsdragon #dcpscore #dcpsart ... Today in the Dragons music lesson we practiced reading music and playing different tunes in our small groups at the same time. We had to use our concentration and listening skills. It helped if we listen to the other groups and counted the beats. Here we are in actions! #dcpsdragon #dcpscore #dcpsmusic ... See MoreSee Less
Our budding year 2 artists are creating their own abstract pieces of art work using different printing techniques. To make it trickier they only have the primary colours and white so they have to mix the other colours they want to use. Great fun (and Mrs Candlish is trying to overlook the mess!)

Year 4 were starting their new maths unit today. We are looking at decimals. Elephants have been learning all about Earth Day. We looked at our impact on the planet, thinking about what happens to our rubbish and how much energy we use. Our fearless Reception were outstanding again today in PE. I am so impressed with their behaviour and resilience especially when using the ‘big’ apparatus. This morning, the year 6 Tigers evaluated the impact of our WAGOLL on the reader. We thought about the effect that features such as emotive language and descriptive language have on us as the reader and identified examples from the text. We then recapped on our class novel ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell.
We are loving this class novel and can’t wait each day to read the next chapter.
