P.E @ Denbigh CPS

Subject Lead: Miss Whalen

At Denbigh we provide a broad and  balanced programme of gymnastics, games, outdoor and adventurous activities, swimming, athletics activities and dance to enable the children to develop a wide variety of skills, be physically active and develop a life long love of sport that will in turn support a healthy lifestyle.
Our curriculum provides a progressive plan throughout each year and in subsequent years of a child’s primary education. We continually assess all children throughout their units of study to identify gaps in their progress and deliver tailored support within lessons to ensure progress.
Our focus on physical education will ensure that children: receive two hours of high quality PE per week, have access to extensive out of hours learning opportunities, will learn that exercise and activity are a lifelong undertakings essential for health and well being, and that P.E. will be linked to the wider curriculum in order to enhance learning for all participants. Furthermore, we provide a range of competitive sporting opportunities to develop the children’s sportsmanship, motivation and passion for sport.
The school was awarded the School Games Kitemark Gold in 2018 and continue to provide an excellent Physical Education for our children.

This afternoon our Y2 gymnasts tackled jumping from apparatus. We mastered straight, star and tuck jumps, making sure we landed on two feet and took off from either one foot or two feet. We were very brave on the higher apparatus. #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsdragon #dcpscore #dcpspe ... See MoreSee Less

We are really proud of our girls football teams. They demonstrated great determination in their first match. One were unlucky to be beaten in extra time 3-2 while the other team fought hard for a 0-0 draw. #dcpspe #dcpscore 🌈💜#determined 💪 ... See MoreSee Less

In PE, Reception loved playing some of our fun agility games to develop their speed and coordination. Cups and cones, sharks in the water and the new game ‘toilet’ were firm favourites this week. They are becoming so confident moving in different ways and at different speeds as well as working in teams. #dcpsEYFS #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpsPE ... See MoreSee Less

Year 5 had a visit from some of the Newcastle Eagles basketball players yesterday. They discussed the importance of health and fitness with us, played exercise games and worked in the classrooms with us. The effort and excitement from the children was amazing! #dcpswhale #dcpspe #dcpsdolphin #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

In PE this week, we focused on agility during our warm up games. Starting and stopping quickly and changing direction during our Cups and Cones game. We then looked at how animals move and were given a specific animal to create a dance representation of them. The children were fabulous at demonstrating their movements and even showed their friends in front of the class. #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpsEYFS #dcpspe ... See MoreSee Less
