Each Tuesday the nursery children explore maths through cooking, we learn about shapes, size, weights and practise our counting. We do this in small groups so that we can take our time and learn new skills. As the Nursery children have been exploring the song five currant buns this week they worked together to make currant buns. We hope you enjoyed them at home today..if they made it that far? ( Those who didn’t make currant buns this week will have their opportunity next Tuesday. ) #dcpscaterpillar #dcpseyfs #dcpspshe #dcpsmusic #dcpsmaths ... See MoreSee Less

The full time nursery children loved toasting their marshmallows over a real fire today in Nursery. I was so impressed at how well the children had remembered our fire pit rules from last week and they did an amazing job keeping themselves safe. Today we also made our own marshmallow play dough and enjoyed using the diggers to fill and empty their trucks with cereal #dcpsEYFS #dcps30hours #dcpscaterpillar #dcpspshe #dcpslotc #dcpsstem ... This week the full time Nursery children helped our puppet Olly plan his first camping trip. We planned everything he might need to bring with him on his camping trip and had fun making our own campfire crafts. The children helped set up his tent and went fishing in our water tray. We gathered sticks for our campfire and discussed how we would keep ourselves safe around a campfire as we pretended to toast some marshmallows. We are looking forward to next week when we will actually toast some marshmallows around our campfire for real #dcpsEYFS #dcpscaterpillar #dcps30hours #dcpslotc #dcpscore #dcpspshe ... Amazing couldn’t wish for a better school nursery for my little Ashton 💜

After spotting some ice on the yard last week the full time nursery children have loved investigating what ice is and where it comes from. They were set the challenge to free some toys stuck in the ice as they investigated how they could melt the ice the fastest using either hot or cold water or sprinkling salt on it. We had fun painting with ice and noticed that our paper was getting very wet. After discovering that ice is made by freezing water the children decided to make their own ice lollies using a range of fruit juices and smoothies. We of course had to try a range of juices before deciding on what flavour we would like our lolly to be. Today we enjoyed our lollies as part of our snack time which tasted amazing! The nursery children were so impressed with their efforts they have asked to make ice cream next week. #dcpsEYFS #dcpscaterpillar #dcps30hours #dcpsstem #dcpscore #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less

They all look like they had a fab time

This week in nursery we have been exploring shape. The full time nursery children began by exploring circles. We threaded circles, printing with circles and even made large circles in the air with ribbon or on a large sheet of paper. We explored the properties of circles as we noticed the tyres outside where round and found that they were the perfect shape for rolling so we set ourselves the challenge to see who could roll their tyre the furthest. We then looked at other shapes and made our own shape monsters. Today we made some shape biscuits which were delicious! #dcpsEYFS #dcpscaterpillar #dcps30hours #dcpsmaths #dcpslotc #dcpscore ... In Nursery we are very kind and care about others. This week we have thought about the wildlife in Howdon who need our help this winter. We thought about what they need and designed warm homes for them. We worked together to make lots of cereal bird feeders for all the birds around Howdon, watch out for them on the trees and bushes near school.
We have also spent lots of time exploring shapes! The children loved making shape sandwiches and creating shape pictures! #dcpscaterpillar #dcpsmaths #dcpspshe
