The year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed British Science week! This year the topic is all about curiosity and big questions that we have around science. We had a great week doing different investigations to answer some of these questions. We we did a fantastic job gathering and recording our own data and finding answers to the questions. This entailed making our own aeroplanes and boats out of different materials and testing them! ... See MoreSee Less

The year 1 Polar bears had a fantastic time on their visit to Stephenson Railway Museum, it was the perfect way to end our travel and transport topic! The children had great fun sharing their knowledge about George Stephenson and understanding of how trains have changed over time. The children had the opportunity to explore the stories of George and Robert Stephenson and the impact of their work in developing the railways. The children took part in an interactive story, using a textile version of Stephenson’s Rocket. We discovered more about Stephenson’s locomotive ‘Killingworth Billy,’ and thoroughly enjoyed using our observational skills to create our own train designs. The children were all wonderful ambassadors for Denbigh, displaying wonderful listening and attention skills, making us very proud! #dcpspolarbears #dcpslotc #dcpscore #dcpshistory ... The Dragons have loved British Science Week this week. We looked at three questions- How do birds build a nest? How do boats float? Does toast always land butter side down?
Our investigations resulted in us having lots of fun, as well as asking and answering some interesting questions, such as what is the strongest material that floats, how long does it take for birds to build their nests and does the weight of the butter make a difference to how it lands. #dcpsdragon #dcpsscience #dcpscore #BritishScienceWeek
