At Denbigh, once children have completed the Read Write Inc. (RWI) Phonics programme, they progress to RWI Spelling from Year 2 through to Year 6. This engaging and interactive programme helps children develop a deeper understanding of spelling patterns and rules in a structured and supportive way.
Children are grouped according to their spelling ability, allowing them to move through the programme at their own pace. This ensures that each child receives the right level of challenge and support to make progress.
RWI Spelling builds on children’s phonics knowledge and delivers daily, bite-sized lessons that cover the statutory spelling requirements of the National Curriculum. Through focused activities, partner work, and regular reviews, children learn how to break down complex words, apply spelling rules, explore prefixes, suffixes, and root words, and tackle tricky spellings.
By working at a pace that suits their individual needs, children become confident and capable spellers, ready to apply their skills across the curriculum.
Children can also practise their statutory spellings using Spelling Frame. Each child has their own individual login. SpellingFrame
