Year 6 have had a super visit with, ‘That History Bloke,’ who taught them about Peter Barrett, a local Victorian. They had to use their skills of reading census data, looking at a headstone, learning about mining and pulling all this information together to find out what happened to him. They asked lots of interesting questions and worked well as a class to answer the questions about him. They then got to look at a variety of mining artefacts, which they really enjoyed. #dcpslion #dcpscore #dcpstopic #dcpshistory ... See MoreSee Less

Year 6 were learning the drawing skills of hatching, cross hatching, stippling and ink wash then making their work lighter or darker using these techniques. They then used different mediums to create textures using poster paint and water colours together with cotton wool, tissue paper, sponges and a washing up brush! Im sure you agree, they are learning lots of skills. #dcpslion #DCPStiger #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Yesterday, Year 6 were learning about the technique of ‘Impasto’, where they had to layer the paint on to create a bumpy texture. We had been comparing actual versus implied texture. #dcpslion #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Today the dinos had great fun experimenting with creating texture by mixing different things in with paint to create a landscape. It’s amazing the difference hair gel, flour, rice, sand, sugar and wood shavings can make. #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Continuing with Art, we had a sewing challenge this afternoon. We studied different types of stitches and discussed how we could use them to create texture in our work. Then we had a go at them ourselves. It was tricky, but we showed resilience and teamwork and had a lovely afternoon! #dcpselephant #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Elephants have been enjoying Art week. Today they selected different materials to recreate art work we had looked at, at the start of the week. They thought carefully about what colours and textures they wanted to use, before building up their pieces. #dcpselephant #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Yesterday we practiced using weighing scales to find different amounts of pasta. We had weighed pasta up to 600g! Even though the scales were tough to read we have a great time and worked as a team. Today we continued our work on measuring mass and used balanced scales to find out the weight of different objects.. #dcpsdragon #dcpsmaths #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Well done Ryan xx

This morning we practised using weighing scales to find different amounts of pasta. While it was tricky to read the scales, the hardest part was keeping the pan on top of the scales (we spent quite a bit of time picking pasta off the floor). We would love to practise more weighing at home if we can.

We have been building up our vocabulary bank in Year 5 by using the Descriptosaurus books to find exciting phrases that we plan to use within our hot write - an Anglo-Saxon legend. We have had to think really carefully about how we can describe our hero and villain characters in order to create an image in the reader’s mind. #dcpsdolphin #dcpscore #dcpsenglish ... Year 5 Dolphins have been working hard during our Commando Joe sessions. Today we had to use problem solving and logical thinking to move from one place to another, following a strict set of rules. Year 5 applied their knowledge of line graphs to create their own masking tape line graphs using data they had collected in Maths today. They had to be careful to ensure their axes were accurate and to record their data precisely! #dcpswhale #dcpsdolphin #dcpsmaths #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

The Whales have been using the descriptosaurus books in English to help them to describe their hero and villain characters for their Anglo-Saxon legends. Elephants started Art week this week looking at texture. We began by looking at different artists, how they are insipired by nature and how they use texture in their work. We then explored different materials and used magnifying glasses to look closely at how the materials were made. Using our observation skills we then used different grades of pencil to sketch the textures we could see. #dcpselephant #dcpsart #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

Year 4 took their maths outside today. To complete our data and statistics unit we had a go at graphing. We made a bar graph to show the months we were born, thinking about our axis labels and title. Then we had a go at creating line graphs using temperature data over 5 days. #dcpselephant #dcpsgiraffe #dcpsmaths #dcpslotc #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less

This morning we moved on in our measurement learning to look at mass. We looked at different objects and estimated if we thought they would be lighter than, heavier than or about the same weight as 1kg. Then out came the balance scales to check.
