Today Year 1 Pandas practised their chopping skills. We learnt three different ways to cut using knives. Method 1 was ‘The Bridge’ where the children make an arch over round shapes to cut them into halves or quarters. Method 2 was ‘The Claw’ where the children keep the food still using the tips of their fingers and cut into chunks. Method 3 was ‘Fork Secure’ where the children hold the food in place using a fork and then cut using the knives.
I was so impressed with how sensible and safe the children were when using knives. They listened at all times to keep themselves and their friends safe. Well done pandas!

We did it!! Very proud to announce that our amazing school has been awarded the Artsmark Gold Award.

The Artsmark recognises the importance that Arts provision has in a child's education and acknowledges the positive impact that cultural education has on a child's development.

The assessment panel had these very kind words for our school, 'The panel commends the commitment you have shown in supporting a wide range of artistic and cultural opportunities for pupils at Denbigh Community Primary School. You have continued to develop a wide range of partnerships and provide authentic experiences for pupils, by utilising local and national artists and venues. The Arts Councillors appear to have had a positive effect on raising the profile of arts within the school, including widening the diversity of activities.'

Congratulations to all our children and staff for making this happen! Well done Denbigh.

Today, Year 5 learnt about Safer Internet Day by acting out different technology based scenes. They role played a scenario then looked to see at which point the situation could have been avoided, with scenarios including posting photos of friends online without permission, inviting someone to join a gaming chat room and buying an in game purchase. For example, one group were posing for selfies. One of the children hated it and the other loved it. He sent it on to the group chat and someone commented that they should have used a filter to look better. This upset the person who hadn’t wanted their photo shared. We needed to work out at which point their actions became a problem and how they could have tackled it. The children were thoroughly engaged with their drama and had a great discussion about how they could stay safe online and with different technologies. Well done Whales, I was very proud of how sensible you were with this tricky topic and what great ideas you had! #dcpswhales #dcpsict #dcpscomputing #dcpsbritishvalues ... See MoreSee Less

This Tuesday (5th February) is Safer Internet Day. The aim of Safer Internet Day is to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. This year, the day will focus on how consent works in an online context and will ask young people to explore how they ask, give, and receive consent online. This could be in their friendships or relationships, how they take and share images and videos or how they manage their privacy and data. In school we discuss these issues frequently and ask our parents if they could join in and have a discussion about these issues at home as part of Safer Internet Day. #togetherforabetterinternet Mrs Guy. #dcpsICT4Learning #dcpscomputing #dcpsbritishvalues ...
