Last week the Dinos had a marvellous time exploring texture. We did rubbings of different surfaces to see what texture they created then used this to create a landscape. By the end of the week we were mixing paint with sand, sugar, icing sugar and oil to create even more different textures for our landscape. The art work the children created was amazing. Well done.

🎶 If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise. If you go down to the woods today, you’d better go in disguise. For every bear that ever there was, will gather there for certain because today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic. 🎶
We are all about the picnic in Year 2 this week. Yesterday we sampled different foods to see what we thought of them - mixed reactions to say the least!
Today we planned a healthy picnic skewer, which we will make on Thursday, and made some delicious cookies. We can’t wait to enjoy our picnic on Thursday under the shade of a tree.

Woodensday again, where did that week go? So today we approached our trip a little differently, we decided to explore the wider park for signs of Spring. We looked fed the ducks and some boys and girls were able to explain how they knew some ducks were male and some female. We walked along the burn looking for ducklings, unfortunately they were hidden today. We found a great hill for ‘sausage rolls’ and danced in the ‘snow’ as the blossom blew from trees. Finally we made a sticky collection, looked for leaves we thought were interesting and petals that had been blown down. We also found some really scented wild garlic plants that we loved sniffing. Some of us might have brought some home on our sticky collection cards so have a sniff! #eyfsdcps #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpslotc

Woodensday! And today, along with everything else we love to do, we had a fire! We were fantastic at following the rules, staying outside the circle, kneeling down when were close and only adding sticks one at a time. We learnt that the sticks that burn best are really dry and you can find them by breaking sticks in two, if it makes a loud crack it’s dry and perfect for a fire. We then began to see how other things we found burnt, so we added feathers, leaves and bark. We loved watching and making predictions. We were so impressed with how inquisitive and sensible the children were around the fire. Denbigh superstars! #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less

I don’t think a non working parent shud be considered over a working parent who needs the place, suppose the non working parents just need the school to give children tea then that’s breakfast, dinner n tea sorted !!

So wrong a non working parent could get a place over someone who has to get to work

Absolute CHAOS down in Year 2 at Denbigh on Wednesday! The children and teachers walked into school ready for their usual day of learning to find out that our classroom had been destroyed and our specs had been stolen! Lucky enough we have such a clever bunch of children down in Year 2 who have now completed Police Crime Reports and have created guardians to protect the 3 specks that the thieves left behind. We are hoping to replant these and watch them grow into wonderful riches. We have also wrote instructions on how to create your own guardian if you also need protecting!

Happy Woodensday! Fantastic day in the woods for the reception children. We were exploring new growth, looking at leaves and buds, running everywhere and looking for bugs. The children this morning played a fantastic game of ‘cats scared of scooters’ which despite not sounding like everyone’s cup of tea, engaged nearly all the children! They explored so many little enclosed areas of the woods creating different scenes for their game. A couple of children decided to made a house for the three pigs that was camouflaged so the wolf wouldn’t see it when he came huffing and puffing along. One child even drew a map to the camouflage house for the pigs back at school. This afternoon we were very focussed on digging and making holes. We found one hole that was so long we lost our spade at the bottom! Thankfully it was rescued by a long grown up arm. On the way back to the bus some boys and girls found an amazing thing with one of the park wardens. There was a little sphere with a hole in which looked just like a seed pod. We were amazed to learn that gull wasps encourage oak trees to create these little pods, or Oak Apples to give them their official title, and then the wasps make holes in them to lay eggs. (Or at least that was my loose interpretation - please see the link below for actual facts!) #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpslotc

Oh my goodness! The children arrived this morning to discover that a heinous crime had been committed. Intruders have made their way into the Year 2 classrooms and stolen the specks! They made quite a mess too which displeased Mrs Candlish immensely and even left a cheeky message.
The children are busy writing crime scene reports to help The Chief of Police with their investigation. We hope that justice will be brought to these hateful criminals.

The Nursery children had a fantastic time at forest school. We used sticks to make Cuthbert the Bear some new friends to play with, searched for mini-beasts, did some bird watching, practised our balancing skills when walking on the slack line, climbed mountains, made houses and played hide and seek amongst other things. Wow! We had such a busy day #dcpscaterpillars #dcpseyfs #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less

Year 2 had a fantastic time of the Life Centre ending our space topic. We totally impressed the staff with our knowledge in the planetarium though the gasps of wonder when the children saw the night sky full of twinkling stars expressed their awe over what they were seeing. From there we had our destination space workshop where we learned more about the jobs people have in space before deciding on the best material for a new spacesuit.
The children had loads of fun exploring the brain zone and the curiosity zone, including showing who would dare to drink from a water fountain placed inside a toilet bowl!
Enjoy the photos. #dcpsdinosaursYear 2 had an amazing day ending their space topic.
