Year 5 also visited Broxfield Farm today. Whilst we were there, we were lucky enough to go on a tractor trailer ride into the fields to learn all about the cows and their life cycles. We then went into the barn to learn about how different crops are grown and produced. We had a go at making our own flour using the flour mills. What a brilliant way to end a fantastic day! #dcpsdolphin #dcpslotc #dcpsstem ... See MoreSee Less

We learned all about medieval life in a castle including investigating the different job roles that we could have had in those times. Year 2 have continued on with their journey into plant life. Today it was time to think about where all plant life starts from - the humble seed. We were amazed by how different looking seeds can be and had a great time trying to figure out what different seeds could grow into. We thought about how a seed germinates to become a plant and how the seeds released from that plant is the start of a new plant lifecycle. We were able to link a plant lifecycle with that of a frog, a human and a chicken.
This of course brought about the age old question - what came first? The chicken or the egg? The plant or the seed? Can one exist without the other?
28 year 2 minds blown by this very conundrum!

This afternoon we looked at lots of different types of seeds. We tried to work out which seed grew into which plant, which was trickier than we thought! As part of STEM week, we decided to see what it was like to be a seed and follow the life cycle of a plant. We started off as seeds in the ground, before water and sunlight gave us the energy we needed to start growing. Then we went through the cycle of being a shoot, growing a bud and becoming a flower before finally using up all our energy and dropping our new seeds to the ground, to start the life cycle all over again. #dcpsdragons #dcpsstem ...
