Today, year 3 tried their hand at composing their own music with the challenge of using only 3 notes. They started with a four beat rhythm grid and edited their music until they were happy with the finished piece. They also learned about note length and rests in the music. #dcpsyear3 #dcpslizards #dcpsmusic

Year 5 Dolphins are spending the day developing their computing skills with Rasberry Pi. So far this morning, we have been using LEDs to create different morse code signals. We have had to be extremely resilient and use our debugging skills to help solve any problems that we came across. It is definitely giving our brains a good work out! We can't wait to continue this afternoon! #dcpsdolphin #dcpsict

Year 2 had a serious crime to investigate this morning. Thieves managed to find a way into the classroom, getting past our top of the range security alarm and cameras in order to steal our 'specks'. To say we were horrified is putting it mildly. Mrs Candlish and Miss Baird were particularly traumatised by the mess left behind (they can't cope with anything less than a neat and tidy classroom). Thankfully our detailed crime scene reports aided Northumbria Police in detaining several suspects and we hope these heinous criminals are brought to justice for their crimes against specks and tidy classrooms very soon. We'll keep you posted.

Reception had a fantastic day in the woods yesterday. We were exploring using magnifying glasses and binoculars to help us see the amazing things that are a little hidden from view. We explored leaves, shoots and flowers on the ground, looked for patterns in nature and then used the binoculars to see what was happening above our heads. We spotted squirrels and birds high over our heads. We were amazed that, on such a sunny day, our little area was so shady. All the trees have grown leaves and so the we are sheltered from the sun. We also got to have a splash in the stream, some of us even tried to build bridges to get across without getting our feet wet! Some of us splashed so much we got soggy socks! #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpslotc

Year 5 rounded off STEM week by using the MUGAs to help us create our very own solar system. Year 2 ART WEEK

Message for year 2 parents. For art week next week, can the children please bring into school on Wednesday 3rd May some items from home that represent who they are or something that is important to them. This could be a toy, teddy bear, photograph, dancing shoes, football kit, favourite book, etc. The children will be using these to pose for their very own portrait photos.

If you happen to have any other dressing up clothes like fairy wings, wizard's cape, magic wands, wigs etc that you don't mind us borrowing for the day, we would be very grateful.
Thank you. Enjoy the long weekend

It was like Reception were never away from forest schools when they returned this week! Some children used potato peelers and even a saw to cut and peel branches they had found. Others found logs and other natural resources to build tree houses and fairy dens. And we even got lucky with the weather! Whoop whoop! #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpseyfs #dcpslotc

Another fantastic day in the woods. We were introduced to saws and peelers today as we investigated what was under the bark on trees. We had some fantastic language, one child thought the peeled stick smelt like caterpillars! We are going to hunt for a caterpillar next week so we can compare! Obviously lots of tree climbing, we are getting very adventurous and great at deciding the level of risk for ourselves. We also are fantastic at working together to achieve things, such as moving heavy branches, building dens and using tools. #dcpslotc #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly

It has been a week of huffing and puffing in Reception. We have been using the story of the Three Little Pigs as our Talk for Writing text. We learnt some actions to help us remember the story and we wrote different parts of the story. We also began to investigate forces, particularly the one that the Big Bad Wolf used to blow down the houses. We sorted objects into things that will blow and things that won't blow and then used that knowledge to design and build structures for pigs to live in. We tested them by huffing and puffing! (And using a hairdryerπŸ˜€)

The Dinos have really enjoyed learning about plants in their STEM lessons. So far they have started to investigate what plants need in order to survive and discussed what job each part of a plant does. Today they explored seeds and were amazed by how different they could be. The Dinos have been working hard this half term learning all about algorithms and using the computer to control the way something moves. Over the past few weeks we have been using the Lego Wedo kits to make models which then moved with the power of a USB cable. Lots of skills were tested as we worked collaboratively, taking in the role of engineer, supplier and builder. We were all very impressed with what we made - dancing birds and a 'foot' which could be used to kick a paper ball. Computing at its best. #dcpsdinosaurs #dcpscomputing
