Throughout the week, the Elephants have been monitoring the temperature and climate in the Sahara Desert. We kept a record of the temperature in a table and we created a line graph with our results BUT this wasn’t any ordinary graph... we had to create it using tape and sticky notes!!! #dcpselephant #dcpsstem #dcpscore ... During British Science Week this week, the Y4 Elephants have been learning all about ‘Our Diverse Planet.’ They have been looking across the globe at different habitats and the variety of environments we have. We have studied the Sahara Desert, rainforests and Antarctica. We had to test different materials to see which were the best insulators so we could design a coat suitable for the Antarctic climate! The children used thermometers to see which materials created the largest temperature change of the water #dcpselephant #dcpsstem #dcpscore ... See MoreSee Less
Year 5 Dolphins braved the winds today at the Rising Sun to complete the orienteering trail and challenge. This afternoon the Dinos made a mini beach complete with seaweed and coral, then they polluted them to compare the two environments. They all agreed that an unpolluted beach and sea is far nicer than a polluted one and discussed what we could all do to be eco warriors and reduce pollution, making the world a better place to live in. #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsbritishscienceweek #dcpsstem #dcpscore #dcpsgeography #dcpspshe ... We were discussing pollution this afternoon. Dragons made their own seaside environments. We talked about how they were clean, inviting and safe for us and animals. Then, much to the dismay of the class, they had to ‘pollute’ their environment. We then talked about the impact pollution has on our environment. We decided that we could help by making sure we recycle, and throw our rubbish away carefully. Ask us about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch! #dcpsdragon #dcpsstem #dcpscore #BritishScienceWeek #dcpsgeography #dcpspshe ... See MoreSee Less
Take one picture..... Dragons have been using working scientifically question stems this afternoon. Y2 had an amazing day at Tynemouth Aquarium today to kick start British Science Week. We looked at the diverse range of species which can be found in the world’s seas and oceans, looking on with awe and wonder at some of the strangest looking sea creatures we have ever seen. We learned about how plastic is the main pollutant of the ocean and about the devastating impact this has not only on the creatures living there but also how it affects us too. Did you know that because of the plastic which fish eat in the sea that a typical human also has the equivalent of a coat hanger’s worth of plastic inside them as we eat the fish who have consumed the plastic? A terrifying thought!
While the sharks amazed us, our hearts were stolen by the seal show and a visit to the seal hospital where we met Molo who tapped on the glass to get our attention (we later discovered this was a ploy for food 🤣). We can’t wait for the rest of the week where we will explore more about pollution and camouflage. #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsdragon #britishscienceweek #dcpsstem #dcpscore #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less
Last week Year 1 became Tooth Defenders! We all practised brushing our teeth to get rid of plaque. The children also made their own set of teeth using mini marshmallows, cleaned teeth on the iPads, used shaving foam, flossed and chose which foods may be bad for your teeth. What an exciting start to British Science Week for Year 2. The theme is Our Diverse Planet. We had a wonderful trip to Blue Reef Aquarium. We started with an Eco Workshop, which got us thinking about how we can be more eco friendly and look after our planet. We learned about plastic pollution and the problems it causes for animals and even how warming oceans is damaging coral. We got to look round the aquarium spotting lots of different aquatic creatures and enjoyed an entertaining seal show! Phew, we can’t wait for the rest of the week. #dcpsdragon #dcpsdinosaur #dcpsstem #dcpscore #BritishScienceWeek #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less

Year 3 have been using our enterprising skills to start up our own dog selling business. We were put into teams and had to decide jobs for each member. These included making dogs, selling dogs, buying materials and treasurer. We had to give Mrs clarke a sales pitch to buy our dogs and convince her to pay as much money for them as we can get. We also had to buy the materials to make the dogs so we had to manage our budget because the team with the most money won! Check out one of our sales pitches!
