Year 5 Whales have had a fabulous day emerging themselves in the ways of the Vikings. This morning we created ancient Viking treasure maps and made our own longboats. This afternoon we took part in a Viking workshop where we learned about the beliefs of the Vikings, helping to act out some of their most favourite stories. We then ended by reenacting a Viking battle! We found out that during a Viking battle it would be very hard to tell who was the enemy and who was in your side! #dcpswhales #dcpshistory #dcpslotc

Year 5 Whales had a great School Games Day. As well as learning about the amount of sugar in foods and what this can do to our bodies, we had another Google Expedition to the Borneo Rainforest and then took part in sports games with Tyne Met. Lots of team work and resilience shown today! Ask us what the healthiest choice is for breakfast - we have all the facts! #dcpswhale #dcpslotc #dcpsteam

Party planners of the future were out in force today in Y5 maths. We had to plan a party for 12 people keeping to a strict budget. We also had to apply our skills of column addition and subtraction to decimals to help us! Some groups were more stingy than others with their money! #dcpswhale #dcpsnumeracy

Y5 Whales throughly enjoyed their Shakespeare workshop today! We learnt the whole of the story of Macbeth in one hour AND acted it out scene by scene! It is great to see those Shakespearean acting skills haven't left this lot just yet. #dcpswhale #dcpslotc #dcpsliteracy

Year 3 Lizards and Year 5 Whales have worked together on a Knex project. They had to build a wind turbine. Everyone showed great team working skills and resilience. They modified their design and made sure the blades turned smoothly. We were so proud of how well they worked together. Mrs Hammill and Miss Stephenson #dcpslizards #dcpswhales #dcpsstem

Year 5 Whales have enjoyed a great day of STEM. This morning we learnt some street science that tested our senses and them investigated mixing different states of matter. This afternoon we pretended to be birds and investigated how worms have evolved to avoid being eaten! We also learnt that scientists aren't crazy people with mad hair and a lab coats! They can be boys or girls and can study lots of different types of science! #dcpsstem #dcpswhale

Year 5 were so scientific this afternoon that they even put themselves in the role of birds and thought about how they hunts for worms! Ask us which colours camouflaged the most and why this is a benefit for the worms! #dcpswhale #dcpsdolphin #dcpsstem ... See MoreSee Less
