The children in Reception are LOVING our dinosaur explorations. Lots of love for the T-Rex strangely, despite it being a meat eater! Just shows how nothing phases Denbigh Children! #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dinosaur ... See MoreSee Less

Reception had a fab day at Forest Schools this week, climbing taller and more difficult trees, mark making with burnt wood(charcoal) as well as finding birds eggs and feathers. A great day for exploring! #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpseyfs #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less

We have become palaeontologists in Reception today, exploring dinosaurs and observing some very unusual eggs! There is lots more exciting stuff to learn. Watch this space... #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly ... See MoreSee Less

Reception had a fantastic day in the woods yesterday. We were exploring using magnifying glasses and binoculars to help us see the amazing things that are a little hidden from view. We explored leaves, shoots and flowers on the ground, looked for patterns in nature and then used the binoculars to see what was happening above our heads. We spotted squirrels and birds high over our heads. We were amazed that, on such a sunny day, our little area was so shady. All the trees have grown leaves and so the we are sheltered from the sun. We also got to have a splash in the stream, some of us even tried to build bridges to get across without getting our feet wet! Some of us splashed so much we got soggy socks! #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less

Wow! What an amazing afternoon we had at Forest Schools today! Children used binoculars and magnifying glasses to find and explore different areas of the park. Some children braved the stream, using buckets to transfer water, splash and make perfume! #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpseyfs #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less

It was like Reception were never away from forest schools when they returned this week! Some children used potato peelers and even a saw to cut and peel branches they had found. Others found logs and other natural resources to build tree houses and fairy dens. And we even got lucky with the weather! Whoop whoop! #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpseyfs #dcpslotc ... Another fantastic day in the woods. We were introduced to saws and peelers today as we investigated what was under the bark on trees. We had some fantastic language, one child thought the peeled stick smelt like caterpillars! We are going to hunt for a caterpillar next week so we can compare! Obviously lots of tree climbing, we are getting very adventurous and great at deciding the level of risk for ourselves. We also are fantastic at working together to achieve things, such as moving heavy branches, building dens and using tools. #dcpslotc #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly ... See MoreSee Less

It has been a week of huffing and puffing in Reception. We have been using the story of the Three Little Pigs as our Talk for Writing text. We learnt some actions to help us remember the story and we wrote different parts of the story. We also began to investigate forces, particularly the one that the Big Bad Wolf used to blow down the houses. We sorted objects into things that will blow and things that won't blow and then used that knowledge to design and build structures for pigs to live in. We tested them by huffing and puffing! (And using a hairdryer😀)

The boys and girls in Reception have been avidly watching the school eggs hatch over the last week and have loved watching the chicks appear. Today they were very excited to meet the chicks and hold them. The chicks were very well behaved, as were the children! #dcpseyfs #dcpsladybird #dcpdbutterfly ... See MoreSee Less

Reception children 'hopped to it' (sorry! Haha) this morning during an Easter egg hunt in the outdoor yard. They worked in pairs to read clues the Easter bunny had left them to find where the eggs were hidden. They used positional language to describe where they were, counted the total number of eggs they found and even sorted them into colours. An 'eggciting' maths morning. #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly #dcpseyfs #dcpsmaths #dcpslotc ... See MoreSee Less
The dance club organised for the Reception class children that was due to begin after Easter has had to be cancelled due to staffing issues from the outside agency we use. We are going to reorganise the dance club for Monday evenings, but as one of the Monday sessions would fall the May bank holiday, we are going to start the sessions the week after that. There will be two groups of sessions offered over the summer term, each running for five weeks at a cost of £5 per pupil. Letters will be sent home tomorrow with details of new dates and the change of cost. We apologise for any inconvenience. #dcpsladybird #dcpsbutterfly ... See MoreSee Less
