Year 5 are having a visit from the Tyne and Wear Fire Service this afternoon. We are learning about the combustion triangle and how to keep ourselves safe by creating an escape plan. We will be coming home tonight to ask our adults to check whether our smoke alarms are all working. #dcpswhale #dcpsdolphin #dcpslotc

Year 5 Dolphins loved spending their day with the EV3 robots today. We had to use an app on our iPads to program the robots to complete a series of missions. We had to then look back at our algorithms and use our debugging skills if things didn't go to plan. A great chance for us to use and develop our teamwork and resilience. #dcpsdolphin #dcpscomputing

A huge well done and congratulations to the Year 5 children who performed Romeo and Juliet at the Northern Stage Theatre on Friday night. After a long day of technical and dress rehearsals, we took to the stage for our performance. The children were outstanding and gave a wonderful performance which was commented on by many of the audience members and other schools. I am so proud of the passion and commitment each child has shown since rehearsals began many months ago!

Thank you to all of the adults who came along to see us in the spotlight!

Tomorrow is the big day! Year 5 will be performing Romeo and Juliet at the Northern Stage theatre tomorrow night. They have worked so incredibly hard and I am so proud of what they have achieved.

Please can you ensure that your child brings TWO packed lunches with them tomorrow (one for lunch and one for tea) as well as an extra drink.

Many thanks for your support over the past few months and see you tomorrow night!

Year 5 whales and dolphins had a blast at Washington Wetlands Centre yesterday. They learned all about how animals have adapted to their habitats all around the world, went pond dipping and even watched the flamingos and otters during feeding time. Miss Stephenson #dcpswhale #dcpsdolphin #dcpsSTEM

Some of Year 5 went to the Northern Stage Theatre today for their Shakespeare Schools Festival workshop. We took to the stage to act out one of our scenes from Romeo and Juliet, tried different ways of using expression in our voices and learned some top tips of acting. We can't wait to try these out in rehearsals!

Tickets are on sale for the performance on 10th Nov. Please send any forms and money directly to Miss Smith.

Reminder for Year 5 Shakespeare children.

Tomorrow is our cast workshop at the Northern Stage Theatre where we get to act some of our scenes out on the stage and develop our acting skills with professional actors.

Please can you ensure that your child is wearing full school uniform and a waterproof coat.

Your child will also require a packed lunch.

Rehearsals are coming along brilliantly! We can't wait for the big day!

Year 5 took their Maths lesson outside yesterday for 'No Pens Day'. We completed different mathematical challenges including creating 3D shapes and structures from sticks, using our iPads to take pictures of Maths in nature and estimating how many blades of grass their might be in certain areas of the field. #dcpslotc #dcpsdolphin #dcpswhale
