Dinosaur Class

Year 2

Margaret Candlish – Teacher,  Laura Mayhew – Teaching Assistant

Year 2 had a serious crime to investigate this morning. Thieves managed to find a way into the classroom, getting past our top of the range security alarm and cameras in order to steal our 'specks'. To say we were horrified is putting it mildly. Mrs Candlish and Miss Baird were particularly traumatised by the mess left behind (they can't cope with anything less than a neat and tidy classroom). Thankfully our detailed crime scene reports aided Northumbria Police in detaining several suspects and we hope these heinous criminals are brought to justice for their crimes against specks and tidy classrooms very soon. We'll keep you posted.

The Dinos have really enjoyed learning about plants in their STEM lessons. So far they have started to investigate what plants need in order to survive and discussed what job each part of a plant does. Today they explored seeds and were amazed by how different they could be. The children loved using the magnifying glasses to get up close and personal with a variety of seeds. #dcpsdinosaurs #dcpsSTEM

The Dinos have been working hard this half term learning all about algorithms and using the computer to control the way something moves. Over the past few weeks we have been using the Lego Wedo kits to make models which then moved with the power of a USB cable. Lots of skills were tested as we worked collaboratively, taking in the role of engineer, supplier and builder. We were all very impressed with what we made - dancing birds and a 'foot' which could be used to kick a paper ball. Computing at its best. #dcpsdinosaurs #dcpscomputing

Year 2 Dinos enjoyed a messy afternoon with pastels creating their very own Venus artwork. The final results were outstanding! #dcpsdinosaurs #dcpsart
