Year 4/5 Elephants

During STEM week, Year 4/5 Elephants had a fun-filled week learning all about solar energy! We visited Churchill to work in the Science labs to learn about all different kinds of energy. Some of the experiments and activities included static electricity, making mini wind turbines and learning how fireworks are made.

We also had a visit from Technology Tom who helped us build our own solar powered cars which we had a go at racing afterwards! In class we investigated where solar panels should be placed on houses to make sure that they get the most sunlight – it was found that on the roof there are fewer objects to block the sunlight and create shadows. We even held our own class debate about whether every house in the UK should have solar panels.
