Pupils experience the War
Year 5 Whales are currently finding out all about the lives of children in World War II. They have studied how children were evacuated to keep them safe during the Blitz of London and the bombing of other important towns and cities in Britain, including those on Tyneside. On Thursday 6th December, Year 5 Whales class visited the Discovery Museum in Newcastle to find out how British people celebrated Christmas during World War II.
We found out that people saved ration coupons for their Christmas dinner, and made do and mended for their presents. Many presents were homemade, as were the Christmas decorations. We made our own wartime Christmas tree strings, and had a great time decorating them. Then it was back out into the festive snow to come back to school and back to the present!
