Year 3 visit the Great North Museum
As part of their History work on Ancient Egypt Year 3 visited the Hancock Museum to do a Mummies Unwrapped workshop. They explored what it took to mummify a body and got hands-on experience of removing internal organs ready to be stored in canopic jars.
We were all immensely impressed to discover that they use X-ray machines to see inside a sarcophagus and then hugely surprised to hear that one of the mummies we were looking at had undergone a cat scan so they could recreate the head! A truly fabulous day.
